Dear Washington Wizards,
As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, the start of the holiday season offers us a wonderful opportunity to embrace the true spirit of generosity with our December challenge: Spark Generosity. In a world often focused on gifts, we want to shift the focus from buying presents to being present and giving from the heart. Instead of the typical practice of buying a store-bought gift, we are encouraging you to create something special, handmade, and meaningful for a loved one, a neighbor, or anyone in your community who deserves a thoughtful gesture. This challenge is a fantastic way to engage in quality time together and teach our children the invaluable lesson that the most cherished gifts are often those that come from the heart. We look forward to seeing the wonderful ways our community sparks generosity this holiday season!
Shout-Outs & Spotlights
Golden Sneaker: Congratulations to classes 2L and 4G! They are this month's recipients of the Golden Sneaker for demonstrating the core virtues in their gym class interactions with their teachers and classmates.
Reminders for Families
The first trimester ends on December 5th, and report cards for grades 1-5 will be available via the Genesis Parent Portal after 3:30 PM on December 12th. Parents can visit our district website for information about our Standards-Based Report Cards.
Our 4th and 5th Grade Winter Concert will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, 2:30pm (Doors open 2:15pm). This 30-minute concert features the 4th/5th Grade Chorus and all 4th graders. Students should "dress their best”. Due to limited capacity, each family is allowed a maximum of two (2) guests. Guests exceeding this limit will not be admitted. Washington School siblings will attend a separate morning viewing and will not be excused from class for the afternoon performance.
With the support of student counsel, our school is excited to kick off our "Share the Warmth" Collection for Hats, Gloves, and Scarves. This collection will help keep families in the Paterson community warm this winter. The collection will last from now until December 12th. All donated items must be brand new. Each grade level will be collecting a different item: Kindergarten & 1st Grade: New Hats – 2nd & 3rd Grade: New Gloves – 4th & 5th Grade: New Scarves.
Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, students will take their mid-year i-Ready diagnostic assessments in Reading and Math. This important check-in helps us measure growth and tailor instruction to support each child’s learning needs. Please help your child come prepared by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. We also encourage you to remind them to do their best and take their time on each question. Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s success!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
Sincerely,
Kelly O’Brien
