Dear Sicomac Families,
It was wonderful to welcome our students and staff back from winter recess! Even with the snow still on the ground, there is a sense that spring is right around the corner. This is such an exciting and important time of our school year. Our students have returned focused and ready to learn. It has been a productive and positive start to this next chapter of our school year. Below are a few highlights and important updates from here at Sicomac.

Welcome, Nurse Jola
We are pleased to share that our new nurse, Jola Puzio, has officially joined our school community. We are thrilled to welcome her and look forward to the care and support she will provide to our students and staff every day. Nurse Jola can be reached at jpuzio@wyckoffschools.org. Thank you for helping us give her a warm Sicomac welcome!
Recess Reminder
Please continue to send your children to school with coats and appropriate outdoor attire. We will be going outside for recess as often as possible throughout the winter months. Time outdoors, even in colder weather, provides students with fresh air, movement, and opportunities to recharge. Outdoor play supports physical health and focus in the classroom and we value that time greatly.
5th Grade Book Clubs
Our 5th grade book clubs are officially underway. Students are engaging in rich discussions and thinking critically about the characters and themes in the books they selected as a group. As they build reading stamina, they are also strengthening their comprehension skills and participating in thoughtful conversations with their peers. We are proud of the maturity and depth our 5th graders are demonstrating in their reading work this winter.

Hands-on Learning
We are excited to share that our friends at Lorrimer Sanctuary are partnering with Sicomac teachers to provide hands-on science lessons for each grade throughout the spring. Yesterday, our 4th graders explored how seeds require cold exposure in order to survive and sprout in the spring. These interactive experiences bring science to life and deepen our students' understanding through real-world connections.
