Abraham Lincoln Elementary School

Dear Lincoln School Community,

This was an exciting week at Lincoln School, particularly for several grade levels. On Tuesday, our second graders had a terrific time at their field trip to Bergen County Zoo at Van Saun Park. Thank you to our teachers and parent volunteers for coordinating and chaperoning a wonderful trip for our students. On Wednesday, our 5th grade students planned, organized, and facilitated an Ice Cream Social as their “5th Grade Giving Back” initiative. With the support of our school community, the 5th grade students raised $1,210 for the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge! Thank you to our students, our chairs Mrs. Downs and Mrs. McCarthy, the 5th grade teachers, and many parent volunteers for their assistance. Finally, all students were treated to an ice pop party at the end of the day as a reward for meeting their “Lincoln Loves Reading” monthly challenge. Way to go Lincoln School!

Students in grades three through five will be taking the New Jersey Standardized Learning Assessment (NJSLA) beginning on Wednesday, May 7th. If they have not already done so, please have your child (Gr. 3-5 only) bring in an extra pair of headphones. The assessment will begin at the very start of the day, so please try to ensure that your son or daughter is at the school on time during testing. The assessments, which include English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (Gr. 5 only) last between 60 and 90 minutes each morning.  Here are a few helpful hints for a successful assessment experience:

• Make sure your child gets ample sleep the night before the assessment.

• Provide a nutritious breakfast each morning.

• Emphasize that your child should try to relax during the test and just do his/her very best.

• Suggest that your child go back to double check answers prior to submitting the test, and take his/her time on the assessment. 

The testing schedule will be as follows:

English Language Arts (Grades 3-5):  May 7th - May 8th
Mathematics (Grades 3-5): May 13th - May 15th
Science (Grade 5 Only):  May 21st - May 22nd

Our Art Show, where student artwork will be displayed, is scheduled for Thursday, June 12th.

Finally, as we approach School Staff Appreciation Week, which begins on Monday, I want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible dedication of our entire staff. Each day, our staff goes above and beyond to ensure that Lincoln School is a safe, nurturing, and engaging place for every student. Their hard work, compassion, and unwavering commitment make a lasting difference in the lives of our students. Please join me in expressing heartfelt gratitude to the amazing individuals who make our school community so strong. Thank you, Lincoln staff—you are truly the heart of our school!

NJSLA TESTING DATES:

Please note the following dates for the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) for students in grades 3-5. The assessments will begin after the morning meeting each day, at approximately 9:15 am.

English Language Arts (Grades 3-5) - Wednesday, May 7th and Thursday, May 8th
Mathematics (Grades 3-5) - Tuesday, May 13th, Wednesday, May 14th & Thursday, May 15th.
