Superintendent’s Message to the Community

May 2026

As we move through the final trimester, our schools remain active with learning, assessments, and end-of-year events. I’d like to share several updates and important information for the month of May

🗓 Important Dates

May 4 – Board of Education Budget Hearing

May 4 – SEPAG Parent Advisory Group Meeting

May – NJSLA and DLM Testing Window (see school calendar)

May – Kindergarten Previews (varies by school)

June 8 – Board of Education Meeting (Retiree Recognition)

📅 Revised School Calendar

The district has made adjustments to the 2025–2026 school calendar. The last day for students is now June 23. Please review the updated events calendar on your school’s website, as changes may impact previously scheduled events or end-of-year plans. Schools will continue to share any building-specific updates as needed.

🎒 Kindergarten Previews

Our Kindergarten Preview sessions will take place this month. These visits provide an opportunity for incoming students and families to become familiar with our schools, meet staff, and begin the transition to kindergarten. Additional details will be shared by each elementary school.

📝 NJSLA and DLM Assessment Information

NJSLA and DLM testing is ongoing this month for students in applicable grade levels. These assessments provide one measure of student progress in ELA and Mathematics. Schools will continue to share specific schedules and details. We ask that students arrive on time, well-rested, and prepared each day of testing.

👏 Staff Recognition

Teacher Appreciation Week begins today, providing an opportunity to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and care our teachers bring to their work each day. Their efforts have a direct and lasting impact on our students and school community.

This time of year also includes Principal Appreciation Day (May 1), Administrative Professionals Day (April 22), and School Nurse Appreciation Day (May 6), recognizing the many individuals who contribute to the daily functioning of our schools and support student success in meaningful ways.

💻 Board Update – Budget Hearing

The Board of Education will hold the 2026–2027 Budget Hearing on May 4. Click here for a summary of staffing adjustments included in the proposed 2026–2027 budget, along with an overview of how programs and class sizes are being maintained across the district.

🎶 Sports and Music Update

Spring athletics are underway, with students participating in baseball, softball, and track, demonstrating teamwork and commitment throughout the season. In addition, our spring concerts will showcase the work of our music students and teachers, highlighting their preparation and performance skills.

🎓 Looking Ahead

At the June 8 Board of Education meeting, the Board will recognize this year’s retirees and their service to the district. We hope you’ll join us to wish our outgoing staff farewell. The meeting will be held at Eisenhower Middle School at 6:30pm.

Thank you for your continued support in making Wyckoff Schools a great place for learning and growth.

Sincerely,

sig
