Schools Closed for Students

Dear Wyckoff School District Families,

I hope you are enjoying this holiday season and all the joy it brings. We have begun the second academic trimester, and students are learning and gaining new knowledge every day under the expert teaching of the WSD faculty and staff. They have also been embracing the season, with elementary chorus concerts and special celebrations across our classes and clubs. Below are a few additional key happenings in the district. I wish each of you, our WSD families, a wonderful holiday break with your loved ones.

High Impact Tutoring for Select Gr. 3-4 Students

The school board approved Tutored by Teachers for the High Impact Tutoring Grant Program which will begin in January for eligible students in Grades 3 and 4. The New Jersey High-Impact Tutoring Grant supports school districts to provide high dosage, intensive tutoring by focusing on high-impact tutoring interventions for students that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. Student eligibility in third grade is determined by the student’s prior report card grades and benchmark assessment scores (AIMSWeb), and in fourth grade by the student’s 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) scores. Students approaching but not yet meeting proficiency and not already receiving supplemental services are eligible. Parents of qualifying students will be notified via letter from your school.

Awards and Recognition

Trustee Rob Francin was recognized by his fellow school board members last week for his retirement from the Wyckoff Board of Education after fourteen years of service, with 13 of those years as the Board President. Mr. Francin chaired several committees over the years, including Policy, Education, Personnel, Negotiations, and Policy. We thank him for his dedicated service to the students, staff and families of Wyckoff.

Congratulations to the students on the EMS Samsung Challenge Team under the direction of Mr. Opremcak, Mr. DeBlock, and Mr. Bonavitacola, on being selected as State Finalists and advancing to the next round of the Solve for Tomorrow contest.

Kudos to all our elementary music students and teachers for the beautiful holiday shows this month. They’ve provided a wonderful start to the season.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools as we work together to create a bright future for all of our students.

Sincerely,

Kerry L. Postma, Ed.D.
