The school board recognized students and staff at their June meeting, for awards, accomplishments, and upcoming retirements. We are proud of all that our WSD family has achieved this school year in each of our key focus areas: pursuing excellence, building a caring community, and personalizing learning.  A big thank you to those teachers who retired during this school year or are retiring at the end of the month for their years of dedication and service to the children of Wyckoff.

Model UN Team Earns Top Award

Eisenhower Middle School's Model United Nations Team was recognized by the school board Monday night for their excellent performance at the JAMUN (Junior Academy Model United Nations) Conference last month. Mrs. McMillan, one of the team’s teacher advisors emailed school staff the following message the day after the conference: “We are ecstatic to announce that our team walked away with the highest honor: ‘Best Large Delegation.’ We are unbelievably proud and in awe of our students.” In addition to the best large delegation, individual students walked away with top honors including Best Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, Honorable Mention, and Verbal Commendation Awards. School Board Honors Retirees 

Teachers Jo-Ann Geary, Laurie Semendinger, Jodi Levine, and Gina Vernieri were honored by the school board Monday night for their years of service in the Wyckoff School District  and their excellent dedication to their students over the course of their careers. Jodi Levine has been teaching at Coolidge School for 27 years in both fourth grade and the technology classroom. Gina Vernieri has been teaching mathematics at EMS for 22 years. Jo-Ann Geary taught speech and language for 13 years, and Laurie Semendinger has been a kindergarten teacher at Coolidge for 10 years. The Board of Education honored each with a framed resolution of appreciation, along with an engraved mantel clock.


Current and Former Students Recognized by School Board

EMS students Lukas Kertesz and Russell Romond, along with WSD alums and high school seniors Daniel Coughlin, Claudia Ferenc, Ariana Giammanco, and Carly Griffin were recognized by the school board Monday night for their extracurricular accomplishments. Eighth grader and EMS track team member Lukas Kertesz was congratulated for placing third in the 1600-meter race at the Track and Field Championship Meet held last month at Park Ridge High School. Seventh grader Russell Romond was recognized for winning the Super Grand Prize at the 4th Annual Pomptonian Healthy School Lunch Challenge for his recipe,  Corned Beef Hash with Carrot and Turnip Muffins. Daniel Coughlin earned the Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his service project of refurbishing the evacuation pathway at Coolidge School. Claudia Ferenc, Ariana Giammanco, and Carly Griffin earned the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts of America for their individual service projects related to the environment and mental health. The school board presented the EMS students with certificates of recognition and the scouts with framed resolutions of appreciation.
