Schools Closed

On Take Your Child to Work Day yesterday, many of our teachers brought their own children into their classrooms to watch them in action and to take part in the learning happening in the Wyckoff School District. On Wednesday, we celebrated Administrative Professionals’ Day, recognizing our secretaries and support staff for all they do to make our schools and offices strong and welcoming. Today is Arbor Day, and the Wyckoff Township’s Shade Tree Commission generously donated a tree to Coolidge School. Students gathered around this morning and read poems and essays about Arbor Day for an audience of peers, parents, township officials.

School Board Approves Funds for Class 3 Officers

The Wyckoff Board of Education voted unanimously to approve funding for the hiring of Class III officers for the schools in the 2023 - 2024 school year. Trustee Gina Nico made a statement explaining the decision and how the horrific events of late, specifically the Nashville school shooting, and Uvalde last year, highlighted the need to do even more in our efforts to protect students and staff. Class III officers are hired by the local police department, and are retired New Jersey police officers less than the age of 65. While on duty, a Class III officer carries a firearm and has full police powers. The Wyckoff Township will advertise for these school-based officers and conduct the hiring with input from school administration. The goal is to be able to hire five officers, one for each WSD school, to start in the fall of 2023. We will continue to enact the security procedures we have in place, and regular visits and patrols by the Wyckoff police will continue.

Jack Berckemeyer to Speak to Parents on May 9

The Wyckoff PTO Coordinating Council has invited renowned speaker Jack Berckemeyer to provide a seminar for parents on May 9, 2023 at 7:30pm at Eisenhower Middle School. The seminar is titled “Understanding Adolescents” and is open to all WSD parents.  Berckemeyer is a nationally recognized author, presenter, and humorist who offers realistic and practical tools to increase success for parents and educators.

Student Wins Healthy Lunch Challenge

Congratulations to EMS seventh grader Rusty Romond who took home the Super Grand Prize at the 4th Annual Pomptonian Healthy School Lunch Challenge for his recipe,  Corned Beef Hash with Carrot and Turnip Muffins. Pomptonian Food Service, the provider of EMS school lunches, runs this contest each year, and their judges were “blown away” by Rusty’s “creativity, cooking skills, and charm.” As grand prize winner, Rusty won the following: a vertical garden for his school, a banner celebrating his success, and a feature of his winning recipe on the school menu.
