2024-2025 Subscription Busing Application

The Board of Education establishes policy for transporting students to and from school which includes the minimum distance from school as established by State Statutes.

The mileage requirement is strictly adhered to and is as follows: Grades K-8 students must live more than two (2) miles from school. No PreSchool student will be transported to school unless provided for in their IEP. Only those entitled to ride may ride, regardless of the weather.

Bus passes are issued to each child eligible to ride the bus. The passes are to be presented to the bus driver upon entering the bus. All buses supplied by First Student have been outfitted with cameras. If a student is not to go home on the bus, parents should write a note to the Principal indicating the alternate transportation arrangements. A note should also be sent if a child is to get off the school bus at a stop other than his/her usual one. Bus rules do not permit a driver to make any unscheduled stops. Most buses make up to fifteen stops per route, so drivers must adhere to their schedules.

If a child resides less than two miles from their school, parents may make private arrangements for subscription bus service by contacting local bus contractors. Parents should discuss with their children the importance of safety - both while waiting for the bus, and also while on the bus. For the safety of all concerned, the driver must give his/her attention to the road. Misbehavior can distract the driver. A child may be suspended from bus privileges for misbehavior.

Students should be at their bus stop ten (10) minutes before their scheduled pick-up time.

We cannot grant permission for children to go on buses other than the one they are scheduled to ride, nor may walkers ride home with a classmate.

Children who walk to school should not cross busy intersections before the crossing guard arrives. Parents should determine the safest walking route to and from school for their children. Children must follow the directions given by the crossing guard.

N.J. State law requires children under 17 years of age to wear helmets when riding a bicycle. The Wyckoff Police Department recommends children should not begin to ride their bicycles to school until they have reached the 4th grade. Safety assemblies and a bicycle safety rally are scheduled each year for 4th grade students.
