Here are some KS highlights from April. :)

Word Study in April has alternated between reviewing our short vowels through "word families" and learning the digraphs /sh/ and /ch/.  The children are doing a great job blending sounds to create new words.

In Reading Workshop the children continue to read "Just Right Books".   They are learning strategies that "Good Readers" use to read at their level.  They are able to notice patterns and use beginning and ending sounds to figure out tricky words.  The students bring home books on their independent level each night to practice their skills.

In Writing Workshop we completed our unit on "How to" and will begin our new unit- Writer's Write Stories.  In this unit the children will be encouraged to use their imagination and create fictional stories.  The students will use their knowledge from writing personal narratives to plans stories that may expand beyond three pages.  We will continue to strengthen our conventions throughout this unit as well.

In science we have begun our unit on Life Science.  We have learned about the biomes forest, rainforest and the desert.  We’ve learned what types plants and animals live in those biomes.  We will continue to explore and compare these and other biomes.

"Math in Focus" lessons have focused on comparing numbers and sets of objects.  We have also been working on addition facts to 5 and have begun to learn how to read and solve addition word problems.

During Exploring Time we have been explored seeds. We planted many different varieties of seeds and are excited to see them growing! We are also observing flowers and parts of flowers/plants.

    Other highlights include-

    *Theme Day

    *Our KinderKoncert

*Our nature walk in the woods
