Last night, the Wyckoff Education Foundation (WEF) held its annual gala at Macaluso’s in Hawthorne. A slew of parents and staff turned out for this Casino Night themed fundraiser to support the Wyckoff School District (WSD). For a glimpse of the resources and technology that WEF has provided to our students and classrooms over the years, check out this 3-minute video created by EMS Technology teacher Mr. DeBlock. A big thank you to the WEF and to all those who generously donated at this event or at any time. Our students and staff appreciate you!

Family Fun at the Schools Next Week

For a fun time with the whole family, join us for the following WSD events happening next week.  All WSD families are invited to the TREP$ Marketplace Event at Eisenhower Middle School (EMS) on Thursday, May 19th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Families and children can peruse the outdoor marketplace where middle school student entrepreneurs will display and sell their created products. On Friday, May 20th, the PTO will host their annual Food Truck Festival at EMS from 4 to 8 p.m. All families are invited to attend this outdoor festival, for an evening of food, games and activities for all ages. Tickets can be purchased at the EMS PTO website. Also, watch for the free Makerspace Nights offered by our technology and media specialists at each elementary school in May and June as part of the Connected Parents Series.

Parent Seminars in May

On Tuesday, May 17, Melissa Straub of High Impact Youth Training Solutions, LLC will provide training for parents on social media awareness and internet safety. This seminar will take place at Eisenhower Middle School at 7:30pm. Ms. Straub will also provide student assemblies for all sixth, seventh, and eighth graders during school on the same day. In addition, clinical psychologist Paula Yanes-Lukin, Ph.D. will provide a parent seminar on May 25 at 9:15am at 270 Woodland Avenue to address the emotional and psychological well being of children and adolescents in a post-COVID  environment. Both of the above seminars are generously provided by the Wyckoff PTO Coordinating Council and are open to all K-8 parents, with no registration required. Also, all Wyckoff families are invited to attend a free evening event at Indian Hills High School on May 25 at 7:00pm with former NBA player Chris Herren, who will share his story of overcoming addiction.

New Jersey Guide to School Board Meetings

The New Jersey School Boards Association recently released a new community resource, A Guide to Board of Education Meetings in New Jersey. The intent of this brochure is to educate residents on the roles and responsibilities of boards of education and superintendents; to provide guidance for members of the public who wish to address matters of concern with their boards during public meetings; and to explain board meeting procedures.

EMS Character Award Winner Takes State Record in Swimming

Cole Wilson, EMS seventh grader who was recognized at last month’s school board meeting for outstanding character, took home a host of state titles at the NJ YMCA State Swimming Championships this spring. In addition to eight state championship titles in freestyle, butterfly, medley and relays, Cole set a new state record in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.34, a record that has been in place since 2014. Congratulations to Cole on this outstanding accomplishment.
