This past Monday, WSD teachers and specialists participated in a full day of professional development activities to further their knowledge of content and instructional strategies. Topics included Building Academic and Social-Emotional Competencies, Gaming and Tech in the Classroom, Addressing Multiple Learning Styles, Supporting Students’ Mental Health, and Best Practices in Math, English, and the Arts. A special thanks to WSD faculty presenters Ann Hazley, George Lambert, Jason Opremcak, Jayne Ramirez, Carly Van Der Wende, Kellie Wilks-Ramundo, and Susan Yadoff, and to all of our teachers and staff for their commitment to professional growth for the benefit of their students.

School Security Drill Notifications

Newly enacted revisions to the School Security Drill Law (N.J.S.A. 18A:41-1) require that school districts provide written notification to parents or guardians following the completion of a school security drill. Schools are required to conduct at least one school security drill each month during school hours. School security drills are exercises to practice procedures in response to an emergency situation including, but not limited to a bomb threat, non-fire evacuation, active shooter/lockdown, or shelter-in-place. These drills are similar in duration to a fire drill, and have been conducted monthly in NJ schools since 2010. Going forward, WSD parents can expect to receive drill notifications via email from the school principal on the same day that a security drill was performed.
