Behaviors that Support Learning for Grades 1-5

 


Listens with understanding and empathy: Pay attention to and do not dismiss another person's thoughts, feelings and ideas; Appreciate and value differences and diversity in others. 


Expresses kindness and respect for themselves and others:

Seek to put myself in the other person's shoes; Hold thoughts at a distance in order to respect another person's point of view and feelings. Use problem solving strategies to appropriately resolve conflicts with peers.


Applies past knowledge to new situations: Use what is learned; Consider prior knowledge and experience; Apply knowledge beyond the situation in which it was learned. 


Thinks and communicates with clarity and precision: Strive to be clear and accurate when speaking and writing.


Thinks flexibly: Consider feedback and constructive criticism. Able to change perspective; Consider the input of others; Generate alternatives; Weigh options.

Collaborates through conversations in small and large groups: A contributing member of the classroom and school community; work productively and collaboratively with others; clearly express ideas and build on the ideas of others


Manages time, space and materials: Independently monitor time within established expectations; maintain organization of work space, materials and tools; recognize appropriate personal space.


Self-advocates: Ask questions for clarity; Take initiative; Stand up for my ideas without hurting or negating others; Seek help.
