This weekend, the clocks “spring forward” for Daylight Savings Time. We have much to look forward to in our schools as we head toward spring, with various student events and learning activities. Last week, Sicomac School held their primary grades spring concert, and tonight the EMS PTO will host a Teen Canteen for the seventh grade. The sixth grade will head to Frost Valley later this month for their overnight environmental retreat. The second academic trimester comes to a close next week as well. We thank our entire school community for your continued support and partnership of our district’s mission to provide excellent educational experiences for all WSD students in a supportive environment.

EMS Students Earn Honorable Mention for Documentary Project

Congratulations to EMS eighth graders Henry Petrie and Declan Tosney for earning an Honorable Mention in the recent annual Mini-Documentary Challenge held by the New Jersey Educational Computing Cooperative (NJECC). The challenge called for students to showcase one local community silver lining resulting from the pandemic via a video presentation. The documentary “Mask Straps” was created and submitted by Petrie and Tosney under the direction of their EMS teacher advisors Mr. DeBlock and Mr. Bonavitacola, and was selected to receive an Honorable Mention by a panel of NJECC judges. Their project can be viewed on the NJECC website njecc.org.

WSD Operations Plan Updated

The 2021-2022 WSD Operations Plan was updated on March 4, 2022 to reflect the district’s recent protocol changes related to COVID-19. The changes, highlighted in yellow, include the district’s shift to “masks optional” and the discontinuation of contact tracing by the schools effective March 7th. Please note the protocols that have not changed — namely, individuals that present with COVID-compatible symptoms will be excluded from school pending negative test results, and individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and return to school after Day 5 are expected to wear a mask in school on Days 6-10.

Evening Art Workshops for Students and Parents

The Wyckoff Connected Parents Series continues with our elementary art workshops in April and May. The workshops will be facilitated by each school’s art teacher and are open to interested K-5 students and their parents. Please see our district website for the registration link and for a full list of offerings in the Connected Parents series.
