Report Cards and Start Strong Reports Released

WSD Report Cards and NJ Start Strong Reports Released Today
Posted on 12/17/2021

Student report cards will be issued today for the first academic marking period, which closed last Friday. Parents and guardians can view their children’s report cards by logging into the Genesis Parent Portal. We are proud of our students’ hard work and accomplishments so far this year under the direction and expertise of WSD’s skilled faculty and staff. Parents and guardians are encouraged to reach out to your children’s teachers with any questions about individual progress and how best to support your children moving forward. As the December recess approaches, I would like to thank you for your continued support and partnership, and to wish each of our students, staff and families a peaceful and joyful holiday season.

Start Strong Reports Released

Paper copies of Individual Student Reports for New Jersey’s Start Strong Assessments are being mailed today to parents and guardians of WSD students in grades four through eight. The Start Strong assessments were administered earlier this fall to measure student progress in English Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as Science (in select grades only). Individual Student Reports will provide parents and guardians with information on key areas in which students may need additional support, and can serve as a starting point for parents and guardians to have conversations with their children’s educators. Parents can also view the reports in the New Jersey Parent Portal using the claim code printed on the paper copy being mailed home today.

Bank Officials Visit EMS

Sixth and seventh grade mathematics students welcomed local banking representatives Karen Mullane and Shamir Gonzalez this week for a presentation on financial literacy and money management. Students learned from these financial officers what type of accounts are available at a bank and the difference between debit cards and credit cards. Money management skills related to saving, spending and digital security were also reviewed, building on the financial literacy curriculum students learn at Eisenhower Middle School. Thank you to Columbia Bank manager Karen Mullane and EMS Math Department lead Ms. Turrone for arranging this authentic learning opportunity.

Board Trustee Recognized

Board of Education Trustee Renee Kaspar was recognized at Monday’s business meeting after completing her term on the school board. Ms. Kaspar served as a member of the Policy/Legislation, Negotiations, Human Resources, Education and Communications Committees during her three year tenure, and served as Chair of the Human Resources Committee for one year. On behalf of the Wyckoff School District, we thank Ms. Kaspar for her time and dedication to the children and community of Wyckoff, and wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Coffee and Conversation

Parents were invited by principals Mr. Lee and Mr. Famularo for a December “Coffee and Conversation” to discuss how parents and teachers can work together to support their children socially and emotionally while navigating the elementary school years. School counselors Ms. Wiebe and Ms. Mapes co-hosted the hour with the principals, facilitating conversations about positive adjustments back to school, ready-to-learn behaviors, the challenges of social media, and developing independence and resilience in our children.
