This is the image for the news article titled Back to School PlanningThere are a few weeks left of summer vacation, and the Wyckoff Schools are happily preparing for fall. The New Jersey Department of Education’s Health and Safety Guidance for the 2021-2022 School Year was published earlier this summer. Here’s what you need to know as we prepare for the first day of school. (You may view the entire 2021-2022 WSD Operations Plan here.)

What will the school day look like?
We will offer full-time, in-person instruction, five days per week on our regular start/end time schedules. Lunch and recess are included in the school day according to these schedules, and buses for eligible students will run on their normal routes.

Does my child have to wear a mask?
Yes. We must observe the state order (EO 251) requiring face coverings in all schools (for both unvaccinated and vaccinated students and staff). Compliance with this order is required, and is not at the discretion of local school districts.

Will my child be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine?
No. There is no COVID vaccine requirement for students, and that is not expected this year. Fully vaccinated, non-symptomatic students will not have to quarantine when exposed to COVID-19.

Will schools observe physical distancing requirements?
Schools will maintain physical distance of three feet between students in classroom settings to the degree possible and reasonable. Each school’s ability to do so will depend on students’ ages, developmental and physical abilities, and available space. None of the state’s recommendations are meant to prevent us from offering full-time, in-person learning.

Will my child be offered remote instruction if they are quarantining due to COVID-19 cases?
Yes. In the event that a student or group of students must be excluded due to COVID-19 positive cases, those students will be provided instruction remotely.

How will you support students as they return to school?
Our goals for the coming school year are to prioritize student well-being and academic success. In partnership with our families and community, we will work to build our students’ academic development, while supporting their social and emotional needs.

When will I learn who my child’s classroom teacher is for this coming school year?
The Genesis Parent Portal will open on Friday, August 27th. Parents will be given access on this date to complete required annual forms, and view their child’s teacher/schedule.

We are looking forward to welcoming students back on their normal schedules this fall. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer!
