Captain Selection Process
Each season, a very
difficult decision is made to select 6 - 8 captains. The number of captains depends upon the total
number of student sign-ups. More
students signing up leads to a need for more teams, thus resulting in a need for more
Fall: Soccer 6 - 8 Girl Captains / 6 - 8 Boy Co-Captains
Winter: Scooter Football 6 - 8 Boy Captains / 6 - 8 Girl Co-Captains
Spring: Speedball: 6 - 8 Boy and Girl Captains / 6 - 8 Boy and Girl Co-Captains
The selection process is never easy, and the process is as follows. We as a staff (classroom teachers and specialists) sit down to discuss the potential candidates.
Beginning with a long list and working down to a short list, the teachers involved in the process discuss specific incidents in which each student has demonstrated leadership, sportsmanship, understanding, and the ability to go above and beyond to help fellow classmates.
We acknowledge that there are often times many more than six to eight students who would be able to effectively carry out the responsibilities of a captain, and that is what makes the decision so difficult.
We would like to remind all students who participate in the intramural program, that not being selected as a captain is not an insult. Leaders on teams are not always designated by a title. We feel that it is very important to remember this, and to constantly demonstrate strong use of the Code of Conduct.
